Acorn Lawn Tennis Club
Acorn Lawn Tennis Club

Acorn LTC at a glance...

The club was formed around 1950 on land, presumably with lots of oak trees, in Wemborough Road; now occupied by a school.

When Acorn moved to its present home, they brought the club house with them — it has certainly passed the test of time! There are often free refreshments available, especially on member's birthdays

As you can see Acorn are also trend setters in the tennis fashion world.

Social play

When do we play?

We play at Arnold House most weekends, bank holidays, some school holidays, and midweek late afternoons subject to light. We don't have floodlights. Additional social play sessions are often arranged on Wednesday and Friday mornings at a club nearby.

We publish a weekly schedule on our Acorn WhatsApp groups setting out the court times for Social Play (four sessions), arranged games, coaching, tournament, and team practice or matches.

The club is not just about tennis.

A team under the name Acorn Antiques appeared on BBC TV defeating the famous Eggheads! At our last Christmas dinner, our ladies team celebrated winning the league. At Acorn we received a surprise visit from Santa! (Guess who?)

Charity Work

We organise an annual charity handicap doubles tournament with a delicious lunch and one of the best raffles and auctions in tennis! We are indebted to our very generous donors.

We have raised funds for many charities (connected to a member or member's relative) including Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, Parkinson's Society, Prostate Cancer UK, Lynda Jackson Macmillan centre (Mount Vernon Hospital), Glukoma UK, Alzheimers Society UK, St Luke's Hospice, Maggie's (Cancer Support), Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and Diabetes UK.

In 2025, we raised £3,400 for the Parkinson's Day Centre, Edgware Community Hospital, and Cancer Research UK.

For 2026, the proposed recipient charities are Alzheimers Research UK and Hatzola (Emergency Ambulance Service).
